Going into the final round of matches, every match had something riding on it, with plenty to play for. Congratulations to 2019 winners Ufford Park CC with runners up Hampton CC.
Week 7 Results – Sunday 10 February
Match 1 – Ufford Park beat Werrington by 3 wickets
Werrington 118 all out from 9.1 overs. Kamlah Ahmed 54 (3x4 and 2x6), Mudassir Shafiq 19 (2x4), Ansar Ali 19 (1x4). Ufford Park 120-3 from 9.3 overs. Andy Larkin 34 not out (1x4 and 2x6), Joe Harrington 27 (Retired 2x4 and 1x6), Ibrahim Javeed 24, Kamlah Ahmed 1-2 from 2 overs.
This win crowned Ufford Park as the Huntingdonshire Indoor Champions for 2018/2019. Ufford had never won the indoor league title but they did with a tight 3 wicket win, with 3 balls remaining of the allotted 10 overs. Werrington had been in trouble at 74-4, but they climbed up to 118 all out due to the brilliance of Kamlah Ahmed. This was back to back 50s for Ahmed in only his 2nd appearance of the season. Waheed Javeed had 1-17 from 2 overs and executed another direct hit run out, while his teenage son Ibrahim also got 2 direct hit run outs.
In reply opener Andy Larkin quickly retired and then Joe Harrington (retired 27) and teenager Ibrahim Javeed got Ufford close. When 2 wickets fell in 2 balls due to run outs there were a few nerves but Larkin returned to end up unbeaten on 34 to see Ufford home. It was appropriate that Larkin was at the crease at the end as he has scored 201 runs in his 7 innings and not been out all season!
Despite Larkin’s efforts, it has been a real team effort, Waheed Javeed averaged 35 and scored 177 runs, while other players have stepped up with useful contributions with bat and ball. As well as representing Huntingdonshire in the County indoor Finals in 2019, they will now represent Hunts in February 2020. The team has been Jan Neville (Captain), Andy Larkin, Jonathan Bigham, Joe Corder, Joe Harrington, Waheed Javeed, Ibrahim Javeed and Sandeep Dahiya.
Match 2 – This match settled 7th and 8th position in the league
Orton Park beat Kings Keys B by 3 wickets.
Kings Keys B 91 all out from 8.2 overs. Naveed Ahmed 38 (2x4), Ansar Hussain 25 (2x6), Hamza Shamin 22 (1x6). Orton Park 92-3 from 8.3 overs. Ghafoor Rehman 25 (Retired), Tom Smith 21 (1x4), Ali Haider 2-18.
Kings Keys B were in early trouble at 14-2. This included the dangerous Saad Ashraf who ended up with 231 runs from his 7 matches at an average of 57.75. Acting Captain Naveed Ahmed 38 and Ansar Hussain 25 (in his 1st match of the season) pushed Kings Keys B to 91. In reply Orton had slipped to 50-3, due to Ali Haider’s 2-18, but the rest of the team rallied to see Orton home by 3 wickets with 9 balls remaining. Ghafoor Rehman’s unbeaten 25 was key in the chase in a low scoring match. Youngster Tom Smith scored 21 and finished the season with 194 runs at an average of 27.7. After a bad start Orton finished the season with 3 wins on the bounce.
Match 3 – CAMRA beat Kings Keys A by 52 runs
CAMRA 149-3 from 10 overs. Sam Tyler 46 not out (1x4 and 2x6), Alan McLean 33 not out (1x4 and 1x6), Nick Bradbury 27 (Retired 2x4)
Kings Keys A 97-4 from 10 overs. Mohammed Saif 28 not out (1x4 and 1x6), M Shazad 21 not out (1x6).
With CAMRA winning it meant there was a chance they could finish second. Their innings of 146-9 was built around an unbeaten 46 from Sam Tyler. Tyler has scored 259 runs from his 7 indoor innings this season at an average of 64.75. Wicket keeper Alan Mclean (33 not out) also continued his impressive form and Nick Bradbury retired with 27. Mclean finished the season with 166 runs at an average of 83 equalling Bretton’s Ryan Evans! In reply despite Mohammed Saif finishing unbeaten on 28 (142 runs from 6 innings, average 47.33) and Mohammed Shazad 21 not out, Kings Keys A closed on 97-4, 52 runs short.
Match 4 – Hampton beat Bretton by 3 wickets
Bretton 129-4 from 10 overs. Ryan Evans 40 (1x4 and 3x6) Dave Bennett 37 not out (1x6) Andy Bennett 37 not out (4x4)
Hampton 130-3 from 8.4 overs. Saqab Ali 36 not out (3x4 and 2x6) Jawad Ali 28 not out (2x4) Sohail Azam 27 Retired (2x4) Ryan Evans 2-22.
We went into the last match of the season with the picture clear. If Hampton win they are runners up. If Bretton beat them, then CAMRA, sat upstairs on the balcony, take runners up. However it was the Hampton boys who celebrated finishing 2nd with a 3 wicket win with 8 balls remaining.
Bretton 129-4 was built around Ryan Evans 40 ( He has scored 249 from 6 innings at an average of 83!) and also useful contributions from the Bennett brothers Andy and Dave who both were unbeaten on 37. Dave finished with 162 runs from 6 innings with an average of 54.
In reply despite the efforts of Evans 2-22, unbeaten scores of 36 from Saqab Ali, 28 from Jawad Ali and a retirement of 27 from Sohail Azam saw Hampton in the silverware with a 2nd place finish.
