Following news last month of local lads being selected for Regional Emerging Player Programmes, two Huntingdonshire young cricketers have been selected for the Northamptonshire CCC Emerging Player Programme (EPP) and one is in the second year of the Essex CCC EPP.
Selected for the Northamptonshire EPP, Godmanchester Town CC U14 left arm seam bowler and right-handed batsman Ethan Rice (pictured above) attends Swavesey Village College. He had observation sessions at Overstone CC and then Northants Indoor Centre and will attend an induction evening and fitness testing session in January.
Also selected for the Northamptonshire EPP, Eaton Socon CC U15 leg spin bowler and right-handed batsman Olly Jefferies (pictured below) plays for the Northants U14 and U17 sides. He scored 700 runs, including 2 tons and took 20 wickets last season.
Former Hunts Cricket Head Coach Dave Summers who supported and nominated both these boys for first-class county opportunities in the early stages of their development said: “This is fantastic news for both lads, their clubs and indeed cricket locally. They have worked very hard and shown great focus and determination in developing their games into the first-class county environment. We wish them every success for the future.”
Godmanchester Town CC U16 batsman Olly Greenhow (pictured below) is already in the second year of the Regional EPP at Essex CCC and has just finished seven sessions at New Hall School and the Chelmsford County Cricket Ground and has a further 7 sessions more locally based in the Cambridge area in 2019.
Shaftab Khalid, Performance Lead for Cricket East (Hunts & Beds), added: “Well done to all 3 boys. They are a credit to cricket locally and we wish them all the best for their future cricketing careers.”
The EPP is an ECB initiative, locally organised that supports players who have the necessary aptitude, attitude, desire and athleticism to be potential future elite players.
