After the super win over Herefordshire on 23 June, our Bedfordshire U14s followed it with a commanding win over a major county – Northants U14 in their ECB-League match on 30 June at Oundle School.
Northants won the toss and batted first scoring 178 all out in their 50 overs. It was a superb bowling and fielding effort by our Beds lad to restrict a solid Northants side to such a low score.
Sam Wells and Zaid Faleel took 2 wickets each and Sam Manning, Adam Trussell and Eldon Craven took a wicket each. The pick of the bowlers was Vedant Somal with 10 overs – 2 maidens – 3 wickets for just 15 runs.
Beds chase started off well with another solid opening partnership (76 runs) between Somal and Faleel; their earlier opening partnerships were 187 against Worcestershire and 100 against Herefordshire.
Somal scored 25 and Faleel scored 38, this was followed by Ryan Chambers scoring 23 (1 huge six in this), Sam Manning scored 21 and then Wells did the rest and got the win for Beds by scoring 36* (with 4 fours).
A great team effort to beat major county and we are now 5th in the league with 4 more matches to go.
