Cricket East continued the Girlguiding taster sessions across Huntingdonshire during February to give the girls the opportunity to try cricket!
These sessions are a great platform to enthuse and generate interest by creating a fun atmosphere to show the girls what cricket is all about!
On 7 February we visited Love’s Farm Guiding and Brownies in St Neots where 30 brownies and 21 guides took part. One Guide Leader commented: “It was an awesome night with the Cricket East team and we definitely showed the Spirit of Cricket! A massive thank you for our amazing kit bag and we will be back playing soon!”
We also visited Huntingdon Girlguides on 25 February – the girls at the session had very little experience other than a few who had played at school. We worked on their batting, fielding and bowling skills and focused on teamwork! Rapid Fire, Conestrike and catching relay games were enjoyed by all. The group received a kitbag from us to carry on the fun after we left, and the girls wasted no time in setting up a game of Rapid Fire to carry on the fun.
We aim to continue the partnership with Girlguiding into the summer and future years, linking with local cricket clubs to get as many new girls as possible into the game.
Community groups such as Girlguiding are a great way of reaching new girls that previously may not have had much access to cricket, and hopefully signposting them to local clubs in time for the summer months!
If your cricket club has any links with local community groups like this, please get in touch to see how we can support you in creating stronger links and providing opportunities for children at these groups to come and play at your club.
