Girls cricket development sessions have been taking place at Peterborough’s Iqra Academy for several months.
The latest sessions in March involved catching drills using the Paceman Recreational Bowling Machine and a ‘rapid fire’ batting drill game.
Some of the girls who have been participating in the sessions have also been completing the Young Leaders Programme and they were presented with their ‘Young Leaders in Cricket’ Polo Shirts. They have now completed the Modules and the next step is to complete their volunteer hours and fundraising in the coming months. It is hoped they will have the opportunity to volunteer within their local community including at the Gladstone Academy and Wicketz Hubs that run in Peterborough. This will help Peterborough’s aim to integrate its communities for which the City has also received a national focus.
The girl’s PE teacher Kalsoom Akbar is completing a Coach Support Worker course in April in Bedford which will be funded as part of the ECB Diverse Communities project.
