2018 - The Stop-Start Season
Chairman of Huntingdonshire County Cricket Club Adrian Cade looks back at the 2018 season:
“I would describe the 2018 season as a ‘Stop-Start’ season! Initially the signs were all good, with the ‘club’ deciding to introduce ‘coloured’ playing gear and the introduction of a focus on the 20/20 format for the senior side. But weather intervened in the first couple of fixtures with both Cambs and Northants which was a hiccup.
“My view of the 20/20 double header we hosted with Leicestershire was that it was a huge success with two strong performances by the club, and the opposition respected they had been soundly beaten. We then dished out the same treatment to the RAF at the iconic ‘Vine Lane’ ground again in the 20/20 format.
“The U25 development competition also had some positive aspects for the club in all their games, probably not reflecting in our results. A reliance on the region’s overseas players was a concern, however, I am grateful that we were able to be competitive in all games, and I personally saw a number of prospects that I would hope will have big futures within the club records.
“We hosted the women from the Essex Academy in the first event of its type in Huntingdonshire in another 20/20 double header and once again I was pleased that though we were beaten in both games, at no stage did any heads drop, and there are obviously women and girls within the county that have the skill to play at a higher level.
“We have lots to look forward to in 2019, and hope that we will build on the aspiration for all players to represent Huntingdonshire CCC.”
