Cricket East visited the University of Bedfordshire on 21 March to run a three-hour workshop with Primary PE Specialist students.
The session aimed to give the PE students more confidence in their ability to coach cricket once they are qualified teachers in their schools and enable them to deliver fun and engaging sessions to try and encourage children in secondary schools to take part in more cricket both in and out of school.
Club & Community Managers Sam Rose and Will Sneath went through an hour of theory, signed the students up to the brilliant Chance to Shine online portal that has FREE resources for teachers and coaches, and talked about the important role that PE plays in the development of each child and the impact they can have as a PE teacher. The second half of the session was in the sports hall, trying out some new skills and drills that changed the way they might have thought about teaching cricket, and some fun ways to progress a lesson from start to finish.
Sam said: “It was a great experience for us to be able to work with the next generation of teachers! They had lots of fun and developed skills and knowledge around teaching cricket in a school environment.”
