Urgent – Inscreased Measures in Luton

Dear all,

Following an increase in coronavirus cases in Luton, senior leaders and public health figures from Luton Borough Council have met with central government officials and a local lockdown is in place that has an impact on sport and physical activity, and as a result impacts local cricket.

Luton Borough council has urged residents to follow these guidelines:

• Stay at home as much as possible
• If meeting up with others, do so outside
• Do not meet in large groups – people should not gather outside in groups greater than six individuals (unless they are from the same household)
• Keep a 2 metre distance from people outside of your household at all times
• Wash your hands regularly
• Wear a face covering in all enclosed public spaces where it is difficult to keep 2 metres apart
• Book a test at www.nhs.uk/coronavirus and self-isolate if you have any symptoms, however mild

With this in mind, Cricket East in line with the ECB now advise all Clubs, Leagues, and individual cricketers that live within the Borough of Luton to move back to Step 3, on the ECB’s official roadmap – attached to this email.

This means games should not be played within the Borough of Luton, and any cricketers that play for clubs outside of the Borough should not travel to take part in cricket matches.

Players can train under the restrictions included in step 3 of the roadmap e.g. in small groups of up to 6 – maintaining other ECB guidelines in place around training including social distancing, equipment sharing, and other hygiene measures.

Cricket East and the ECB will continue to work closely with Local Authorities to review our stance on a weekly basis.
