Our Luton Wicketz programme continues to make national headlines!
The Telegraph’s Cricket Correspondent Scyld Berry visited Luton in May 2018 to see the Wicketz programme in action. He was impressed with the intensity that he saw in the players which were mainly Afghan refugees and the brilliant man-management skills of Wicketz Development Officer Amran Malik.
Scyld commented about the social benefits of the Wicketz programme: “A curious yet gratifying development is that the police have found cricket to be a highly efficient means of teaching social cohesion and life skills to deprived communities. The police officers who lecture a school or social club about the dangers of trespassing on railway lines are usually ignored – but not if they go to a Wicketz session, join in, appear human like everyone else, and then give a five-minute talk.”
