Bretton Cricket Club moved back to their old home ground at Woodlands – Splash Lane, Castor, Peterborough on Sat 27 April and to mark the occasion played Bharat Sports CC in a pre-season friendly.
The move comes after a gap of three years playing at various other grounds after Woodlands was shut down at the end of the 2015 season with rumours that it was going to be built on.
Bretton Club Secretary Tony Buckingham said: “Thankfully that is no longer the case and its owners, Nene Park Trust, are keen to restore Woodlands to its former glory with cricket, football and tennis eventually being played there.
"It’s a community project that will probably take three years to bear fruit and Bretton CC will be the first sports team to move in followed by Bharat Sports CC next season.
"As there are little or no facilities there at present, we are virtually starting from scratch again, but the response from our members has been terrific with some building a scoreboard and others providing a boundary rope, waterproof covers, plates, cutlery, tables, chairs, etc.
"With help and guidance from Nene Park Trust and Cricket East the intention is to gradually turn Woodlands into a ground that is fit to stage youth county cricket as well as weekend and midweek cricket to the local community.”
