Bretton remain top of the Hunts Indoor League after a dramatic last over win against defending champions Ufford Park. The defending champions have now lost 2 on the bounce and are joint bottom of the table after a 2-wicket defeat. Ufford posted 142-4 from their 10 overs with opening batsman Shoaib Chaudhry leading the way with 44. Chaudhry received best support from Waheed Javeed (25) and a quick-fire blitz of 20 from Dan Ashraf which included 3 powerful sixes. For Bretton Ethan Bennett led the way with the opening bowler taking 3-14.
Bretton reached their target of 141 with 2 balls remaining thanks to Captain Andy Bennett finishing unbeaten on 38 and debutant Tom Sanderson also unbeaten with 34, while Ufford contributed to their downfall bowling 14 no balls and 8 wides!
AK11 are right behind Bretton and are only separated by the amount of opposition wickets taken after beating Wansford by 6 wickets with 4 overs remaining. Wansford’s score of 98-5 from their 10 overs was built around Kester Sainsbury with 24, while extras also helped with 32, with the majority of these being leg byes! AK’s Sufyan Mazhar helped undermine the Wansford innings with being involved in 4 of the wickets to fall taking 2-15 and taking a catch and executing a run out.
Ak raced to victory with the top 3 batsman all retiring. In ECB Indoor Cricket you have to retire when you score 25 (or your last scoring shot goes past 25) before you can return later on. Zaheer Abas, Abrar Ahmed and that man Mazhar all reached that feat seeing them home with plenty to spare.
Werrington recovered from last week’s drubbing which saw them score the lowest ever (or one of the lowest ever) Hunts Indoor League scores to bounce back to winning ways against Pak Azad. After being shellshocked last week and knocked over for 19 the city team this week posted 112-1 from their 10 overs against Pak Azad with 4 players making the 20’s and 3 retiring. Chasing 113 Pak Azad lost wickets at regular intervals falling 18 runs short. Mudassar Shafiz (2-11) and Captain Mohammad Toseeq with 2-14 were the bowlers in form for Werrington.
Hampton are also off the mark after a 77 run victory against this years new entrants Whittlesey. Hampton Captain Ali Shah led from the front with 38 and he received good support from Mateeh Fayyah with 33 and lower order batsman Saad Ashraf unbeaten with 30. Chris White (23) and Simon Parkes (16) set a solid base for Whittlesey but despite a rapid unbeaten 39 from wicket keeper batsman Ian Jones Whittlesey were to come short. 3 run outs did not help the Whittlesey reply with agile fielder Nadeem Choudhari executing 2 direct hits.
