A note from Paul Barnes - Beds ACO Chair
I had the honour of being elected as Chairman of the Bedfordshire Association of Cricket Officials, following the retirement in 2018 of the admirable Bob Browning, who served on the executive of the association with distinction for many years.
The main aim of the association is to provide training for officials to enable and prepare them to officiate competently in Ladies and Mens cricket. We offer a range of ECB approved courses, face-to-face and online, enabling officials to begin at entry level officiating in schools, youth and club matches and progressing if they wish, to league panels and senior level cricket. In order to further help officials further develop their skills we offer the opportunity for them to be paired with a "mentor" or be watched and advised by an off field observer.
We hold a number of members' meetings throughout the year, which enable officials to meet, socialise and discuss any issues they may have with their colleagues in a relaxed manner. Some meetings are addressed by guest speakers who are interesting and often entertaining.
The aim is to help officials develop their skills and importantly to ensure that they enjoy officiating. We offer a very warm welcome to all who visit this website and trust that the information you find here will be of benefit and hope that it encourages you to consider becoming a cricket official and joining our association. Please do not hesitate to contact myself or my fellow BACO officers who will be pleased to provide you with more information regarding our activities.
