Cricket East proudly delivers the Chance to Shine programme to schools across Bedfordshire and Huntingdonshire, reaching nearly 600,000 children annually. This initiative harnesses the power of cricket to enhance personal, social, and physical skills in young people.
Our fully qualified, DBS-verified coaches lead the programme in primary schools. With first aid and safeguarding training, they ensure a safe and supportive environment for all participants. The programme spans six weeks over a half-term, and is completely free of charge. Beyond our coaching we hope to empower teachers with the confidence to teach cricket in schools, clubs, or even casual settings.
What’s it all about:
There are different aspects to The Chance to Shine programme which make up the whole school programme. To embrace the aims of the programme it’s encouraged for schools to take up every aspect.
Inspire
A whole school assembly to talk about cricket, the chance to shine programme and out of school opportunities for children to play cricket.
Play
A half term of cricket delivered to your choice of classes. Same classes, same time and day for a half term. Your school will have a dedicated, fully qualified cricket coach who will deliver sessions each week.
Teach
We offer CPD training to schools to learn about fundamental movement skills in cricket as well as key stage competition formats which link to the School Games. As well as teacher CPD, we also offer UKS2 playground leader training with a cricket focus.
Compete
There’s nothing better than finishing off the whole school programme than with an intra school competition. We’ll host a day of competition where your school can compete against each other for house points or just for fun.
Pathway
Taster sessions for classes not involved in the play aspect of the program. Typically 30-45 minutes per class on one day. Speaking to parents at the end of the day about out of school cricket opportunities such as All Stars Cricket and Dynamos Cricket
How can my school get involved?:
The Chance to Shine Portal is full of resources which you can access for free. When our coaches come into your school to deliver the programme, we follow a national curricular based delivery plan. This is to ensure your students are receive key stage appropriate content and learning fundamental movement skills for their age group.
